Yesterday, I was on day 5 of battling a stomach flu 🙁 and just as many days of not working out. Food is not my friend right now!! Although I was not feeling 100% I committed to an approach of drinking plenty of water and trying to sweat out what was ailing me. You hear people say this all the time, but does it work? I decided to give it a try.
My first workout was Jillian Michaels 30-Day Shred (level 3). It’s an older DVD set, but this has been one of my go to workouts for awhile now when I want to fit in a quick workout (20 minutes) that challenged me to work hard. She follows a 3-2-1 interval system that combines strength, cardio, and abs. She incorporates weights in her routines as well.
Each 20-Minute routine consists of:
- One 2-minute warm-up
- Three 6-minute circuits following the 3-2-1 interval system: 3 minutes of strength training, 2 minutes of cardio, and 1 minute of abs
- One 2-minute cool down
So if you are short on time, this is a great option to add into your regimen.
I’m fortunate that I have a flexible work schedule and have a fantastic yoga studio nearby. So I braved the frigid weather and headed out for a noon hot yoga class for my next workout. Gratefully, I felt really good during my practice. It was exactly what I needed and I worked up a great sweat.
I knew my husband wanted to hit the gym after work and I debated about going. Although tired, I still decided to go and just walk on the treadmill. Mostly because I wanted to make sure I got in 10,000 Fitbit steps for the day. Yes, I am addicted to my Fitbit! I took it easy only going 4.0 MPH at a 6% incline. Mission accomplished!
Although under the weather, it felt good to get in some good physical activity. I’m hoping my method of sweating it out works. We’ll see. But I promised the hubby I would visit the doctor if it continues.
